# Start translating

Now that your audio input is set up, you’re ready to start translating!

Live translation is managed from the **Streaming Controls** in the Kaleo dashboard. You’ll use your computer to activate live translation for each service. Here’s how to start translating:

<Stepper>

1. **Pick the audio input**

   This was covered in the [previous step](./set-up-your-audio-input). You should have a live audio feed from your sound system that meters in the signal tester.

1. **Pick the speaker language**

   This is the “source” language spoken in your service that Kaleo will translate. Choose from the current [speaker languages](../supported-languages#speaker-languages-section), or use [multilingual mode](../supported-languages#multilingual-mode-section) if multiple languages are spoken in the same service.

1. **Pick the target languages for translation**

   Select the languages you want to enable for translation. Churches on our free demo and Unlimited subscribers can enable every currently supported translation language. Other plans may limit how many translation languages can be enabled.

   <Callout type="info" title="Speaker language captions don't count towards your limit">
     Live captions in the speaker language are always enabled for free. This means if your service is in English, you get English captions for free, and this doesn't count towards your translation language limit.
   </Callout>

1. **Click the green play button to start the translation**

   Streaming Controls are at the very bottom of the sidebar.

   <DocImage
     src="/images/getting-started/start-translating/streaming-controls.png"
     alt="Kaleo Streaming Controls showing the Soon, green play, Visible, and Clear buttons"
     caption="Click the green play button to start translating."
     width={770}
     height={210}
     maxWidth={640}
   />

1. **Now your translation is live!**

   You’ll see live captions in the dashboard so you can monitor what’s going on. Then, you can [share the translation with your church](./share-with-your-church) so others can tune in and access the translation!

</Stepper>

## More streaming controls

There’s a few more controls for you to customize your translation:

- **Visibility button.** Hides the translation and stops broadcasting more translations until visibility is enabled again.
- **Clear button.** Clears all of the translations currently shown on users’ devices.
- In the **More options** dropdown:
  - **Speaker gender.** Changes the gender of the speech translation for every listener. This should match the gender of the speaker, and can be changed anytime during the service.
  - **Interim captions.** Shows word-for-word captions as they are uttered in the speaker language only. Great for closed captions in the speaker language!
  - **Scheduling.** Automatically stops the stream after a certain time. For example, you can set the stream to stop automatically in two hours from now.
