Start translating
Now that your audio input is set up, you’re ready to activate the live translation in just a few steps:
-
Pick the audio input
This was covered in the previous step. By this point, you should be logged in to the Kaleo dashboard on your computer, with a live audio feed from your sound system that meters in the signal tester.
-
Pick the speaker language
This is the “source” language spoken in your service that Kaleo will translate. Choose from the current speaker languages, or use multilingual mode if multiple languages are spoken in the same service.
-
Pick the target languages for translation
Select the languages you want to enable for translation. Churches on our free demo and Unlimited subscribers can enable every currently supported translation language. Other plans may limit how many translation languages can be enabled.
Speaker language captions don't count towards your limit
Live captions in the speaker language are always enabled for free. This means if your service is in English, you get English captions for free, and this doesn't count towards your translation language limit.
-
Click the green play button to start the translation
Streaming Controls are at the very bottom of the sidebar.
-
Now your translation is live!
You’ll see live captions in the dashboard so you can monitor what’s going on. Then, you can share the translation with your church so others can tune in and access the translation!
More streaming controls
There’s a few more controls for you to customize your translation:
- Visibility button. Hides live captions and silences listener audio until visibility is enabled again. Translation continues into the session archive.
- Clear button. Clears all of the translations currently shown on users’ devices.
- In the More options dropdown:
- Voice. Selects the speech translation voice for every listener. Choose Male or Female; you can change it anytime during the service.
- Scheduling. Automatically stops the stream after a certain time. For example, you can set the stream to stop automatically in two hours from now.
Kaleo Connect
Use Kaleo Connect to capture audio from a dedicated computer instead of a browser tab. Open Integrations → Kaleo Connect in your dashboard and download the build for your computer: macOS (Apple Silicon or Intel) or Windows (x64 or ARM64). On macOS, install it in Applications. On Windows, run the installer for your user account. The Windows installer is currently unsigned, so Windows may show an unknown-publisher warning. Connect installs updates automatically when it is idle and no upcoming service requires it; your pairing is preserved.
Open the app and allow microphone access. Pair the app with your church using the pairing code shown in the dashboard, then select the microphone or sound-system input in Connect. Confirm the input meter responds before starting a service. Keep the computer awake and Connect running throughout the service.
In the dashboard, choose the paired device as your audio source. Set the speaker and translation languages, then start the stream. You can stop it from the dashboard or Connect. Use the device's default-audio-source option to make it the church's automatic selection for future starts.
If you use ProPresenter, enable its local network API, set its port in Connect on the same computer, and verify that Connect reports it ready before choosing that device for captions. A missing audio input or unavailable ProPresenter connection must be corrected before a scheduled service starts.
